POSTCARDS FROM PAKISTAN
Nestled at the foot of the Karakoram mountain range and its five "eight thousand", Pakistan is at the crossroads of the Gandhara civilizations and the Mogul empire. A destination appreciated by lovers of high mountains as well as lovers of cultural discoveries, it had never recovered from the aftermath of September 11. Carried away by Islamist turmoil and religious unrest, the "Land of the Pure" had been put on the index of the Western authorities for its lack of visibility on the safety of potential travelers, leading to an inevitable collapse in its value in the booming global tourism market.
Nevertheless, in recent years, many changes have taken place thanks to the efforts of an enterprising government. On the one hand, security has improved considerably, allowing a reduction in the number of travel recommendations in certain areas of the country. On the other hand, a real effort has been made by the Pakistani government to develop the local tourism potential. Recently, travel agencies and tourism professionals have returned and are planning new itineraries across the country for tourists who are interested in this still confidential destination. But between the sublime landscapes perfect for hiking, the exceptional cultural heritage and the enthusiastic welcome of its inhabitants, Pakistan could well become a major tourist destination in a few years.
